I am a South-African scholar,
based in Cape Town, South Africa
As a historian, I research slavery and emancipations in the Indian Ocean World. My work addresses aspects of the lived experience of slavery, how the practice was regulated, and the financial underpinnings of slavery and emancipation in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
I hold a PhD in Social and Economic History from Leiden University, the Netherlands. Currently, I am a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Economics at Stellenbosch University, and affiliated to LEAP Stellenbosch, the Biography of an Uncharted People project and The Cape of Good Hope Panel.
